Lies, Art, and Chocolate: Texas Style

Lies, Art, and Chocolate shares the life of the protagonist, Piper Bates. A life unfettered by archaic views of what a person of a certain race or gender is supposed to do and feel. The novel tells about Piper and Shay’s quest to find their ultimate relationships.  The story begins as a conversation over a lunch, wine, and chocolate at an espresso pub on Austin’s trendy West Sixth Street. Along they way, you will find out that though born and raised as city girls, they can both “Country with the best of them” as they visit a honky-tonk out in Giddings, Texas.

Piper’s relationships are not simply monochromatic; she lives and loves in color. She interacts with men of various races and experiences multifaceted cultural differences, which affect her life. She deals with racial and gender issues, however, throughout the novel, Piper’s love, faith, and determination are prevalent. Lies, Art, and Chocolate is ripe with cultural references as well as historical and visual details. It reveals the world through the eyes of a contemporary woman, possessing a harmonious mixture of traditional values and contemporary realisms.

This is what is fascinating and intriguing about Lies, Art, and Chocolate:  Texas Style.

Babes in Christ: a Handbook for Motivational Enlightenment

Babes In Christ is a labor of love. I started writing it in early 1997 and when I had almost completed it, I caught a severe case of writer's block. It wasn't until later that year that I completed the manuscript. Even then, it was only seven chapters long. And there the manuscript sat gathering dust.  It was only last year that my husband suggested that I get my manuscript published.

The chapters reflect my deep, personal experiences and the areas of life that I feel are fundamental for learning and growth. For instance, I wrote the chapter on patience because that is an area of my life that I constantly pray to God for assistance in. In my chapter devoted to women, I have shared some truths about how we as women treat ourselves and allow men to treat us. Nonetheless, I offer spiritual backup to reassure my sisters that we can make the right decisions in life.

I start the book out strong and the final chapter is just as strong; it is full of self-proclamations of my utter faith in God.

The purpose for writing my book was to touch the hearts and minds of those in need of spiritual guidance, motivation, and truth. As you read my book, you will see that everything that I write has a reference to scripture. I would never write a book with religious content and leave out the word of God.

Friends, I believe that God has purpose and meaning for all of us. Whether you are here to touch another's life or to just bring forth children to make the world a better place, you have a purpose.
