This is a sociological study I started years ago that involved interviewing African-American subjects across America, delving into their roots, and dissecting why they speak and sound they way they do, depending on the area they are from. I hope to continue my prior research initiated on this subject as well as begin a study of how African-Americans struggle to assimilate into the workplace while maintaining their ethnic individuality.
Robert Browning is one of my all time favorite poets along with Claude McKay and Langston Hughes. A few years after reading Browning's poem "Porphyria's Lover", I decided to write what I think is a clever, contemporary twist off the poem, which deals not only with relationship issues, but racial issues as well. I have included a little teaser for those who'd like a sample. In addition, I have included some recent poems I have written. Please clink the link above this paragraph.
In the book, I expand on the content of the stories I have already written and publish a compilation of short stories and essays. While I was in junior college, I was quite vocal when I was in the Black Student Alliance and I was eventually the Vice-President of my campus chapter. While there, I was the co-creator and the editor of our newsletter. I hope to salvage some of the social commentaries that I previously wrote and publish those as well.
